In ASL, "Saturday" is signed by making an "S" handshape and moving it in a circular motion near your chest. The sign came from the old practice of bathing on Saturdays, when people would wash themselves in a circular motion, and this movement became the basis for the sign we use today. You can use this sign anytime you talk about Saturday. The historical link between this sign and weekly bathing shows us how ASL signs often came from real-life actions that people did long ago.
