How to Sign "Hard" in American Sign Language (ASL)
In ASL, "hard" is signed by making a fist with your dominant hand, palm facing up, and firmly tapping the back of your hand against your other palm twice. The sign changes to show how hard something is. You can use this sign to mean something is physically hard, like a rock, or to show that a task is difficult to do. People often make a strained face when using this sign to talk about tough tasks or challenges. The sign shows up a lot in schools and at work.
