How to Sign "Father" in American Sign Language (ASL)

In ASL, "father" is signed by tapping your thumb against your forehead with your five fingers spread open. The sign comes from men wearing hats and being the head of the family. You can use this sign anywhere. Some people tap twice instead of once when making the sign, and both ways are fine. This sign is one of the first things new students learn in ASL.
