How to Sign "D" in American Sign Language (ASL)

In ASL, the letter 'D' is formed by extending your dominant hand's index finger straight up while the other fingers curl into the palm. Your thumb touches the middle finger. When you look at this handshape from the side, it looks just like a capital 'D' in English. The thumb and finger position is part of the ASL alphabet that people use to spell out words. This handshape shows up in many other ASL signs, which makes it very important to learn.
