How to Sign "Baby" in American Sign Language (ASL)
In ASL, "baby" is signed by cradling your arms as if holding an infant, with one arm crossed over the other. The sign copies how people hold babies. This movement is one that most people know and use all the time when talking about babies in sign language. You can rock your arms a bit. The sign works for real babies and for phrases like "baby steps" that aren't about real babies. When you want to talk about someone else's baby, you first show who the parent is, then make the baby sign.
