How to Sign "Art" in American Sign Language (ASL)

Art in ASL looks like two hands moving in circles in front of you. The movement shows how artists create their work by using both hands with spread fingers, moving them back and forth while facing each other like they're making something in the air. You can change how you do the sign based on what kind of art you're talking about. When you mean painting, your hands move like holding a brush. The sign comes from copying how artists work with their hands. If you're at a museum or gallery, people often add other signs to show exactly what type of art they mean.
