How to Sign "x" in American Sign Language (ASL)

In ASL, you make the letter "X" by bending your index finger into a hook while keeping other fingers in a fist, with your palm facing out. The simple shape looks just like a tiny "x" when you do it right. People use this letter all the time when they need to spell out names, places, or special words that don't have their own signs in ASL. The "X" shape needs to be quick and easy to see when you're spelling words letter by letter. Some ASL words like "tax" and "relax" use this same hand position, but they add more movement to it.
