How to Sign "What" in American Sign Language (ASL)

In ASL, "what" is signed by extending your fingers, palm facing up, and moving your hand side to side. "ASL" means "age/sex/location" when texting online. It's a way people used to ask for basic info about someone they met in chat rooms back in the 1990s. The short form "ASL" isn't used much anymore when people text each other. These days, most people use "ASL" to mean American Sign Language.
