How to Sign "Question" in American Sign Language (ASL)
In ASL, you make a "question" sign by curving your index finger like a hook to form an "X" and moving it in front of your chin. The simple movement looks just like a question mark in the air. When asking questions in ASL, you must raise your eyebrows for yes/no questions or lower them for questions that start with words like who, what, and where. This sign came from French Sign Language and is used everywhere as a way to show you're asking something. People use it all the time, whether they're having a quick chat or in a serious meeting, and they can change how they do it based on how urgent their question is.
