How to Sign "Open" in American Sign Language (ASL)

Using both "B" hands. With the palms down, placing the edges of the hands in contact or near contact. Then, diverging the hands outward/upward so that the palms face upward and the hands are held apart in space. You can change this sign based on what you're opening - like using one hand as a door and the other hand to show opening it. The sign looks just like the real action of opening things, which makes it easy for new people to understand and remember. You can use this sign every day and mix it with other signs to say things like "open door," "open book," or "open mind."
