How to Sign "Coach" in American Sign Language (ASL)
In ASL, "coach" is signed by making both hands into "C" handshapes, then moving them in a forward motion from the shoulders, as if pulling on suspenders. The sign comes from old pictures of coaches wearing suspenders. People use this sign when talking about someone who teaches sports, helps in school, or guides others in any way. When you want to talk about a certain kind of coach, just sign the type first, like "football" or "life" before making the coach sign.
