How to Sign "9" in American Sign Language (ASL)
In ASL, you make the number 9 by curling your index finger down while keeping your other fingers in a fist. The palm must face away from your body, just like when you show numbers 6 through 8. Making a hook shape with your index finger helps people know you mean 9 and not another number. The sign came from French Sign Language a long time ago, and people still use it the same way today. You'll see this sign when doing math, telling time, or counting things. The number 9 in ASL is just a number and doesn't have any special meaning behind it.
